For anyone considering a waterbirth, but not able to spend the several hundred dollars to rent fancy birthing pools with fancy equipment, check out this article.   The author of the article shares some tips on how to make a waterbirth more affordable.  I personally found the tip on using a fish tank pump and fill device rather than a standard water pump especially helpful (at least a $30-$40 savings).  Of course, the benefit of buying the fish tank pump and fill (besides the price) is not having to purchase a separate garden hose for filling the pool (although it may be a slower fill than a garden hose).  Another alternative to the expensive water pump is this simple pump I found online this morning, which will need a separate garden hose, but will empty and fill much faster than a fish tank pump.  Just thought I’d share these little tips as I shop around for my birthing equipment!  If you have any more tips for me, please feel free to share!
